Julen Lopetegui has been sacked as Real Madrid head coach.
Madrid broke the news at 21:00 CET on Monday after mounting speculation over Lopetegui's future and following the humiliating 5-1 defeat at old foes Barcelona on Sunday afternoon.
Los Blancos held a board meeting at 18:00 CET in Madrid and decided to relieve the former Spain national coach of his duties with Madrid sitting ninth in the Liga table.
Former player Santiago Solari, currently in charge of Real Madrid Castilla, will take charge of the first team on a temporary basis. Solari will take charge of training on Tuesday before taking charge of his first match on Wednesday as Madrid face Melilla in the Copa del Rey.
