Marcelo to miss Atletico return through suspension
Real Madrid will be without Marcelo for next Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final second leg against Atletico Madrid as the Brazilian sits out through suspension.
The full-back was one of three Madrid men walking a suspension tightrope at the Vicente Calderon last night and his booking late in the second half rules him out of next week's return leg. Toni Kroos was the only other Madrid man to feature last night who was one booking away from a ban but he escaped caution free. Fabio Coentrao is also one yellow card away from a one-match ban but he was not even in last night's squad.
Coentrao is the man most likely to replace Marcelo next Wednesday but Alvaro Arbeloa has also played there, while Nacho is another alternative.
"It's a big loss but we have other players waiting to fill in for him ," said Madrid captain Iker Casillas after the match. "We don't like that we'll be without him but that's how it is."
Marcelo has been superb for Madrid this season and produced another good performance at the Calderon, both defensively and in an attacking sense.
Atletico will also be without midfielder Mario Suarez through suspension. Tiago could be the man to replace him in the starting eleven.
