Bundesliga referee Brych to officiate Madrid derby
One of UEFA's leading referees has been handed officiating duties for Wednesday's Champions League tie between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.
The referee who took charge of the first leg, Serbian Milorad Mazic, came in for some strong criticism, especially from the Atleti side, after the match and UEFA have handed duties to German Felix Brych for the second leg.
The bulk of the Atleti complaints over Mazic were that he was not an official from one of Europe's top leagues but now an official from the Bundesliga will be in charge at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Atletico midfielder Mario Suarez, who will miss the second leg through suspension, led the criticism after the first match saying that Mazic was "very bad". He added: "With all due respect, they cannot put a referee from Serbia today. The referee did not show enough quality."
Now 39-year-old Brych will be the man in the middle and he has been a lucky charm for both sides in European matches - neither have lost with the German in charge. Something will have to give on Wednesday night.
